We work for, and with, the people and places of our whānau, neighbourhoods and communities; to strengthen our communities and to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi; to create supported and empowered people and places.
We do this by leading and advocating for and with; empowering and enabling; supporting and partnering.
Sport creates opportunities for people to challenge themselves, connect with others and be part of something bigger, whether they're playing, coaching, officiating, volunteering, administering or cheering from the sidelines.
A key focus of Sport Canterbury's work is ensuring everyone who wants to be involved can participate in a way that suits them, while championing positive sporting experiences that inspire a lifelong love of sport.
Sport Canterbury recognises the vital role coaches play within the sports system. We collaborate with regional sports organisations to support coaching frameworks and systems, ensuring the continual recruitment, development and retention of high-quality coaches across all levels.

To support organisational capability and enhance sustainability, our efforts encompass governance development, leadership mentoring, diversity and inclusion training, and the coordination of financial workshops for our stakeholders.
Sport Canterbury is committed to creating positive sporting experiences for tamariki and rangatahi. We work alongside sport leaders, schools and organisations to support environments where young people can enjoy sport, build confidence and stay involved for longer.

Sport Canterbury's Keep it Positive campaign is a region-wide campaign that promotes respectful and supportive sideline behaviour across sport. Through community education and a shared commitment from clubs, schools, whānau and supporters, the campaign aims to create positive sporting environments where tamariki and rangatahi can thrive.
Sport Canterbury uses Sport New Zealand's Sport Pathways Framework to guide its approach to sport. Built around the vision of Sport for all, Sport for life, the framework recognises that people participate in sport in different ways and for different reasons throughout their lives.
A key focus of the framework is creating quality sporting experiences through three success factors:
Good people
Good programmes
Good Environments
By supporting great people, quality programmes and positive environments, Sport Canterbury aims to help sport thrive across Waitaha Canterbury and Te Tai Poutini West Coast.
