Canterbury’s favourite sportspeople are continuing to inspire enthusiasts of all ages to keep moving - in their own backyard.
A collaborative approach and shared vision between the Sport Canterbury Events team and WeAreCanterbury, has seen this project come to life despite challenging circumstances.
Thanks to the determination of our favourite local film crew, tamariki across Otautahi can count on tips, tricks and skill development while they have some time on their hands.
On Tuesday 17 March, Sport Canterbury briefed George Berry: Bring together a group of iconic Canterbury sportspeople for an afternoon of filming tips, tricks, and challenges to share during these uncertain times.
On the day of filming, however, New Zealand learned of its impending lockdown; time had run out to secure most of the footage.
Yet the project persevered, given the determination of both parties, and resolve from the sporting community to connect their followers, even with an uncertain season ahead.
Representing Regional Sporting Organisations, athletes were asked to film themselves showcasing sport specific skills aimed at tamariki to keep players in touch with their sport during this period.
“The athletes are filming these videos from their own backyard and making use of the equipment they have, which makes these videos that much more accessible. We are all in living under the same circumstances, and need to stay active and connected in any way we can,” says Sport Canterbury Chief Executive Julyan Falloon.
Stay tuned to the WeAreCanterbury facebook page, as more Canterbury sportspeople share ways to keep active in your own backyard.
