Mid Canterbury’s finest athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers were recognised last Friday night at a very special occasion as the Mid Canterbury Sports Awards took place in Ashburton.

Held in the Function Centre at Hotel Ashburton, the Awards were a sell out with more than 250 people attending to celebrate the success and achievements of those nominated. The calibre of the nominees and finalists on the night was nothing short of inspiring, with many in attendance commenting that they “could only imagine the difficulty the judges would have faced in selecting the chosen winners.”

Some highlights of the night included the flare and energy of James Cochrane, the MC for the night, as well as the induction of two new Sporting Legends, Paul Ackerley and Hayden Roulston.

Sport Canterbury’s Chief Executive Julyan Falloon says of the occasion, “It was yet another special time for our sporting community to come together to celebrate our collective sporting success in Mid Canterbury.”
