The Ashburton Guardian Mid Canterbury Sport and Recreation Awards celebrated the region’s top athletes, devoted volunteers and impactful community programmes.
With over 35 finalists across 10 categories and 20 sporting codes, the evening was a vibrant celebration of achievement and dedication.

- Sportsperson of the Year: Brea Roderick (Triathlon/Cycling) - Recognised for her exceptional performance on the international stage.
- Team of the Year: Mid Canterbury Heartland Rugby Team - Celebrated for their strong season and community spirit.
- Masters’ Sportsperson of the Year: Kyle Gray (Road Cycling) - Acknowledged for his continued excellence in masters competition.
- Robiliard Award for Outstanding Service to Sport: Owen Wylie (Football) - Awarded for his commitment, passion and years of service to Mid Canterbury United Football Club.
- Outstanding Youth in Sport: Fletcher Hobbs (Rugby) - A rising star making waves in rugby.
- Coach of the Year: Jack Tiller (Tennis) - Honoured for his leadership and development of local talent.
- Community Sport and Recreation Impact Award: Longbeach Coastal Challenge - Recognised for expanding participation and creating an even more inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere.
- Sporting Legend of Mid Canterbury: Valerie Young (Athletics) - Valerie’s incredible global achievements and her lasting impact on New Zealand sport make her a true inspiration.
- Official of the Year: Heath Lyttle (Softball) - Commended for his commitment and professionalism.
- Volunteers of the Year: Paul Churchill (Rugby), Kate Perry (Equestrian), Ellen Pryor (Squash), Anna Redmond (Multisport), Henry Ross (Tennis), Owen Wylie (Football).
Special guest and Paralympian Anna Grimaldi inspired attendees with her story of resilience and triumph, adding a memorable touch to the evening.
