A new strapping clinic in Mid Canterbury has provided sporting codes with free, valuable knowledge ahead of the winter sports season.

Sport Canterbury Mid Canterbury Community Advisor, Alice Breading, says the attendees, representing 10 different codes, included a diverse mix of coaches, managers and support personnel.

“Many individuals participated across multiple sports, showcasing the collaborative spirit of our athletic community,” Breading says.

“The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with 100 percent stating they found the session useful and would recommend it to others in the sporting community.”

Local physiotherapist Caroline Polson facilitated the clinic, and Breading says she provided extensive knowledge and exceptional teaching skills.

“The clinic focused on an introduction to its purpose as well as the fundamental principles of strapping,” Breading adds.

“Attendees then received demonstrations of strapping techniques for the ankle, knee, shoulder and thumb. Following each demonstration, participants practised the techniques with one another.

“Caroline’s ability to connect with participants and provide clear support was greatly appreciated.”

One participant, Summer Anderson, praises the clinic’s hands-on aspect, allowing them to roll up their sleeves and apply what they learnt.

“Being able to practice and receive corrections and support was incredibly helpful; it made everything click much better than just being shown,” Anderson says.

Overall, Breading says the clinic was a positive experience that provided valuable skill development and fostered community engagement among local sports enthusiasts.
