Alice Breading and Anna Holland are excited about this week's 2025 Kathmandu Coast to Coast event.

Breading, Sport Canterbury Mid Canterbury’s Regional Advisor, is stepping out of her comfort zone for the event. She’s been training with Ashburton’s Tinwald Cycling Club and is eager to take on the challenge.

"Cycling is something I've never done more than going down the [Ashburton] River Trail with my kids,” she shares.

“I just wanted to give it a go, do something different, step out of my comfort zone and show my kids that it’s cool to do something new and give things a go.”

As the race approaches, Breading is focused on her training and maintaining a positive attitude.

"I know, for me, it’s probably going to be quite mentally challenging,” she says. “I want to finish with a smile and be positive the whole way through.”

Fellow Mid Cantabrian Holland, a Healthy Active Learning Facilitator for Sport Canterbury, is enthusiastic about this week.

"Running is a real passion of mine, especially trail and off-road running,” she says. “[I’m] looking forward to giving it a crack.”

The pair highlight the importance of the event's atmosphere and the support from their community.

"It's the pinnacle of all events in my eyes," Holland remarks.

“Anna’s practically my work wife, so doing this without her wouldn’t even be an option,” Breading adds. “She’s coming along for the ride.”
