Ngā Puna Wai has once again proved its status as a versatile space that caters for a wide range of sports, activities and events in the southwest of Christchurch.
The facility has been a massive drawcard for thousands of people visiting Christchurch from all over New Zealand in 2020 alone.
It seems fitting, that one of the last major events at the facility for 2020, was one that drew people from all over the country to come together in a show of athleticism, friendly competition and comradery.
On the weekend of 21 November, 280 Ultimate (frisbee) players came together at Ngā Puna Wai from across the country over two days for the 2020 New Zealand Mixed Ultimate Championships - Division 2.
What made this occasion extra special was that it was the first time this tournament has been held at Ngā Puna Wai.
“The players are so grateful to be playing at such a quality facility - the grounds are amazing, and we are really soaking in all that Ngā Puna Wai has to offer,” said Canterbury Ultimate President, Richard Fernando “
Ultimate player, Samantha Cording commented further on this adding, “Being able to play Ultimate in Christchurch and also at such an epic facility is awesome, it’s great to see so many teams enjoying the tournament and pushing themselves to showcase everything they had learnt this season.”
The tournament was a great build up to the 2021 National Ultimate Championships, also due to be hosted at Ngā Puna Wai from the 26 – 28 March - https://nzuc.ultimatecentral.com/e/2021-new-zealand-ultimate-championships
