Board Welcomes New Perspectives

 Governance

If the role of a Regional Sports Trust is to protect spaces and places for participation, recreation and play for people of all ages, then the vision of the Trust relies on navigators who know the benefits of these experiences firsthand.

Sport Canterbury’s Board of Trustees consists of individuals who contribute expertise in their respective field as well as governance.

The Regional Sports Trust earned Governance Mark accreditation in 2019, and has always attracted a standard of Trustees who share the organisation’s values and add value to its position as New Zealand’s visionary RST.

Melanie Carpinter and Kim Sinclair-Morris are new additions to the eight-strong Board, adding a significant breadth of experience and skill, including insights from the health sector and communications.

Melanie Carpinter (Ngāi Tahu - Wairewa) is a trained journalist with experience in strategic communications, public relations and marketing. Throughout her career she has worked in the private sector, in government and for her iwi of Ngāi Tahu.

“I fundamentally believe in the kaupapa of Sport Canterbury and the positive impact it can have on our communities now and in the future. I am delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to this organisation in a governance capacity,” says Carpinter.

Fitness is an important part of life for Melanie and her whānau, and she believes being involved in sports and recreation has the power to change lives and bring people together.

Kim Sinclair-Morris joins the Board with a wealth of experience in strategic partnerships, change leadership, and a focus on solutions that deliver to people and communities as well as systems.

She has been recognised for her achievements in netball umpiring, and holds the position of Executive Director for the Canterbury Clinical Network (CCN).

The CCN is an alliance of health system leaders and partners who work together to transform the delivery of health services through people- and whanau-centred, clinically-led approach that improves health outcomes for Cantabrians.

"I am delighted to join the Sport Canterbury Board and be part of an organisation that is focused on enhancing the connectedness and wellbeing of communities through participation in physical activity and sport.

Kim enjoys spending time outdoors with her active family.

According to Chairman of the Sport Canterbury Board, Gerry Dwyer, “The range of knowledge and experiences these highly skilled individuals bring to the table, professionally and through sports as well as active recreation, certainly adds value and strengthens our Board.”
