COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE

At the recent Healthy Active Learning Hui, there was interest and enthusiasm to create a Community of Practice within the network of Healthy Active Learning leads from our 31 schools and wider than this, with teachers from Primary and Intermediate Schools in Canterbury.

See the impact that Healthy Active Learning has had within school as described by teachers from Burnside Primary, Our Lady of Victories and Gilberthorpe Primary in the below video.

MINDFULNESS WITH MINDFUL MOVER

Forty primary and intermediate teachers from Canterbury schools are currently involved in a four week Mindfulness course with Mindful Mover. The course was designed in response to the current Covid-19 circumstances with an aim to support teacher wellbeing, with additional resources to keep practising mindfulness throughout their own time and activities for students.

KEY LEARNINGS FROM HEALTHY ACTIVE LEARNING HUI

On Wednesday the 18th of March we hosted a networking and professional learning hui for all Healthy Active Learning schools at Ngā Puna Wai. The day consisted of several presentations and collaborative activities regarding Play, Physical Education and Sport. Thank you to everyone who attended and for your valuable participation throughout the day. Here is a summary of the key learnings and common themes from the hui.

NEXT STEPS - TERM 2 & ONWARDS

Our current priority is ensuring that schools are supported to deliver quality play, physical activity and Health and Physical Education through the Covid 19 Alert Levels. Even at alert level 2, play, physical activity and Physical Education will look different to what they did prior to Covid 19.

We will also continue to undertake scoping and planning sessions with your Healthy Active Learning Facilitator to identify actions that include short, medium and long- term outcomes.

Some of the short term goals will include:

  • Wellbeing strategies for teachers/tamariki
  • Play activities relevant for the home and school environment
  • Play/Physical Activity activities relevant to Alert level activities within school setting linked to PE and learning
  • Transitioning to PE at level 2

Your Healthy Active Learning Facilitator will be in touch, but if you would like any support at all please reach out to your Facilitator who is happy to help however they can.
