Successful events rely upon a true sense of community, and The Press Run to Remember is no exception.
In 2020, NZ Express is one of our valued event partners with a history of giving and a very special role to play on Sunday 8 March.
Founded in Dunedin in 1867, the Christchurch-based firm is possibly the oldest transport Company in New Zealand, and these days focuses mainly on Christchurch and Canterbury metropolitan cartage. The company has strong involvement with the Port of Lyttelton, with four main divisions based at its current purpose-built facility on Kennaway Road, close to Lyttelton Port. These include; road transport, warehousing, international forwarding and container services.
According to Sport Canterbury Chief Executive, Julyan Falloon: “We are grateful for the fantastic support NZ Express have shown in the build up to The Press Run to Remember. As a Charitable Trust, we rely upon the generosity of partners who go above and beyond, allowing us to pass significant savings on to our participants.”
The company has strong ties within the Canterbury community and is a long-time supporter of Life Education Trust Canterbury, our charitable partner of choice for The Press Run to Remember. NZ Express transports the iconic Life Education Trust mobile classrooms so that Canterbury kids get to experience Harold and the team in their own environment.
“NZ Express is committed to its community by supporting and offering sponsorship to Life Education Trust Canterbury, the Santa Parade, Kids in Trucks and the Formula 5000 programme.”
“We are very proud of the support we provide to these local organisations. We hope to offer further support to Sport Canterbury events in the future, which is very exciting,” says NZ Express Operations Manager, Mat Bruce.
In the lead up to 8 March, NZ Express will supply the Sport Canterbury Events Team with two trucks for use as stages and gear transport at both Victoria Park and Hansen Park.
Falloon says Sport Canterbury is indebted for this opportunity. “This represents major savings for our event and has meant that for the first time ever in 2020, we can present finishers’ medals to everyone completing the 10km course.”
NZ Express is passionate about preserving the Canterbury environment, inspired by their Port Hills backdrop.
“We replace our vehicles with the latest technology to minimize carbon emissions. We generate minimal waste by actively recycling as many items as possible. This includes recycling programs for dunnage and other items used on-site. Plastic drink bottles have been removed from the staff environment to be replaced by metal water bottles, to keep the staff hydrated and safe.”
On behalf of the entire Sport Canterbury team, we are grateful for the generous support NZ Express has shown us, and we look forward to running, walking and remembering together on Sunday 8 March 2020.
