Secondary School Champs

In March, Ngā Puna Wai was again a showcase for track and field, as well as relief and resilience.

Forty-four schools from across Christchurch took part in the Secondary School Athletics Champs on Thursday 19 March.

"It was great to see so many athletes competing in the Canterbury Secondary Schools Athletics Champs today at Ngā Puna Wai. It's good to be amongst their peers, to help with their wellbeing and have a wee bit of normality,” said Jacqui Restieaux, Sports Director, Villa Maria College.

The turnout was poignant given the timing, and nothing less than a show of solidarity and resilience by Christchurch schools, sports coordinators and families.

“At challenging times, sport and recreation take on a greater meaning,” Sport Canterbury Chief Executive Julyan Falloon added.

The event capped an incredibly exciting summer for primary and secondary schools at Ngā Puna Wai.
