South Canterbury Green Prescription participants will be lucky enough to experience the nutrition and exercise knowledge of Kate Forster firsthand, as she joins the team as the new Physical Health Advisor in Timaru.
Originally hailing from Paraparaumu, Kapiti Coast, Kate made the move south to be closer to family and has now lived in Timaru for two years.
When asked about the move, Kate says: “I have fallen in love with the town because of its friendly community and its great location - being so close to the mountains, lakes and sea.”
After studying for a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Sport and Exercise Sciene, Kate discovered that her passion lies in helping others develop a more active, healthier lifestyle.
She finds it very rewarding to know that she can make positive changes in an individual’s life through the implementation of healthy habits to improve their overall wellbeing. When the job description for a Physical Health Advisor popped up, she knew it was a ‘no brainer.'
When asked what she has enjoyed about working at Sport Canterbury so far, she states: "My biggest surprise about working here would be how amazing and friendly the work environment is. This is one of the many reasons I truly enjoy coming to work every day.”
Kate has always had an interest in sport and recreation and grew up as a competitive swimmer, runner and triathlete. She also spent a lot of time in the sea training and competing in Surf Life Saving while at school. While attending University, she made the decision to put swimming on hold. During this time, she decided to give bodybuilding a go, but found that it wasn’t for her. She has since kept up attending the gym, however has found most of her enjoyment in running.
The key responsibilities in Kate’s role will include supporting individuals to engage in lifelong physical activity for wellness; delivering eight-week 'Be Active' programmes; and providing physical activity leadership and relevant resources for South Canterbury communities.
We warmly welcome you Kate, and we look forward to seeing the impact you have on the community.
