Sport in Canterbury: A Numbers Game

Local Accounting Firm Champions Community Volunteers as well as Commonwealth Success

From Sophie Pascoe to Tom Walsh, so many of New Zealand’s greatest sporting achievers come from the South Island. This legacy adds to the meaning and mana attached to the Canterbury’s annual sporting celebration.

In 2018, Nexia New Zealand returns to the podium, as Sport Canterbury’s principal naming rights sponsor.

“This iconic event would not take place without a partner to champion the value of celebrating sport in Canterbury – our officials, coaches and administrators as well as our athletes,” says Sport Canterbury Chief Executive Julyan Falloon.

The Nexia New Zealand Canterbury Sports Awards will be held at Wigram Air Force Museum on Friday 9 March 2018.

Following four years of partnership between Sport Canterbury and Marriotts Chartered Accountants, Christchurch-based Marriotts merged with HFK, another leading and highly-respected mid-market accounting, advisory, audit and insolvency practice.

As a result of the merger, the Nexia New Zealand team offers local insight and community connections as well as experience from around the globe.

“We are large enough to provide expertise - local and international - but still small enough to retain that all-important one-to-one, personal and enthusiastic client approach. Providing services throughout Christchurch and New Zealand, our people firmly believe in the value of community and creating a supportive and social environment where the entire team can thrive.”

Nexia New Zealand naturally identifies with the sporting community; amongst their Partners, Andrew Hastie is a former Black Stick and current coach of the Canterbury Cavaliers Men’s Hockey team, Doug Allcock is the Chairman of Touch Canterbury and Trustee of the Cricket Live Foundation and Craig Rhodes is the Chairman of Mainland Football.

Nexia New Zealand Partner Craig Melhuish says it is common to see staff out training and participating in numerous sporting activities, applying the same disciplines that they demonstrate in their professional lives.
