Running and Remembering: A Special Connection
The 2018 Mitre 10 MEGA – A Run to Remember relies upon the support of very special community partners.
These event partners, including Shine Lawyers, appreciate the value of this annual event as an opportunity for reflection and remembrance, for Cantabrians and visitors alike.
After working to help the people of Christchurch since 2012, Insurance Specialist Andrew Hooker opened Shine Lawyers' Christchurch Office in May 2016, so that Shine Lawyers could continue to assist in resolving earthquake claims for the people of Canterbury.
According to Christchurch Shine Lawyers Senior Associate and Manager Mobeena Hills: “We knew that this was an event that we really wanted to support, and we are thrilled to be a sponsor again.”
Both Mobeena and Claudia Leighs (also part of Shine Lawyers’ Christchurch team) are keen runners. Claudia specialises in plaintiff insurance litigation, particularly earthquake work.
“Claudia has a genuine desire to help people in their time of need and has a strong connection with Cantabrians affected by the earthquakes.”
Claudia plays hockey for Carlton Redcliffs Premier women’s team. She explains her connection to the earthquakes and those affected.
“Every year our Carlton Redcliff’s team (Reddos) get together to do the Mitre 10 MEGA – A Run to Remember in memory of Amanda Hooper, who died in the February 2011 earthquake. Amanda was a Reddo for many years, and also played for the Canterbury Cats and Black Sticks.
“Reddos have a very strong team culture on and off the field, and Amanda embodied every aspect of being a Reddo. On the field, she never stopped running and gave 110%, and off the field she was always inclusive and friendly and was someone you wanted to be around.
“We as a hockey club and team want to keep her memory alive, and the Mitre 10 MEGA - Run to Remember helps us do that every year.”
