Healthy Families Ōtautahi (HFO) proudly supported the recent Taurite Tū hauora event, a vibrant day dedicated to movement, connection and the wellbeing of kaumātua.

The event brought together kaumātua from across the community, creating an atmosphere filled with laughter, activity, kai and manaakitanga. From gentle exercises to group games and kōrero, the day reflected the kaupapa of Taurite Tū: a kaupapa Māori strength and balance programme designed specifically for Māori aged 50 and over and their whānau.

Taurite Tū's purpose is to improve physical wellbeing, prevent falls and enhance confidence through culturally grounded activities.

Chris John, HFŌ Pasifika Systems Innovator, says Pegasus Health interns were instrumental on the day, assisting with station setup, supporting kaumātua during activities and helping everything run smoothly.

"Their enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck in alongside everyone created a welcoming, energised atmosphere that kaumātua really enjoyed."

John says the day was a meaningful demonstration of how intergenerational learning, whakawhanaungatanga and community partnership can uplift wellbeing and bring people together.

"Taurite Tū continues to show the power of movement, culture, and connection,  and Healthy Families Ōtautahi looks forward to supporting more initiatives that celebrate and enhance the health and oranga of our kaumātua."
