114 Nominees Across 27 Sporting Codes

ORIX New Zealand Canterbury Sports Awards 2021

The annual ORIX New Zealand Canterbury Sports Awards provide an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our proud sporting community.

In 2021, 114 nominations have been received across 27 sporting codes.

According to Sport Canterbury Chief Executive Julyan Falloon, the Awards carry added significance in this year due to the tireless efforts of our sporting community to keep connected through a pandemic and deliver sport successfully across all Alert Levels.

“Together we will look back on the achievement and commitment of our athletes, coaches, officials and administrators.

“Once again, our region has turned to sport as a source of resilience and connection,” Falloon adds.

The adapted format in 2021 ensures Sport Canterbury’s abiltiy to deliver an event that takes the current environment into consideration, with a focus on celebration and bringing communities together.

From Falloon’s point of view, based on experience over the past year, it’s about creating assurances and being prepared for changing circumstances.

“Although we are delivering in a different way, we will still be celebrating the naming of two new Sporting Legends of Canterbury, which is always a highlight.”

In 2021, the ORIX New Zealand Canterbury Sports Awards have seen a remarkable amount of nominations. "the number and quality of nominations shows that our communities are keen to recognise the added workload and responsibility that our sporting community took on, to get us safely through the Covid environment."
