Use the search box to find activities in your local area.
To view all listings for a certain activity, set the locality to ‘Select All’ - found at the top of the menu bar.
Sport Canterbury are passionate about seeing more Cantabrians, more active, more often. A big part of achieving this goal is connecting people looking for activity options with local activity providers. The Activities Directory aims to make it as easy as possible for this to happen.
There are a range of benefits for activity providers: (1) The directory is being widely promoted Sport Canterbury, encouraging visitors to the website. This will result in more people finding out about your activities and could lead to an increase in sign-ups and new members, (2) The directory is being used as a referral tool by Sport Canterbury and other organisations - it is becoming the ‘go to’ for practitioners looking for activity information, (3) The directory has a strong community focus – it gives all local providers the opportunity to list and promote their classes, groups and programmes at no cost.
Your information will be held by Sport Canterbury for the purposes of providing the database and undertaking related administrative tasks. We take the collection, storage and security of personal information seriously. You have the right to access and correct any personal and activity information held by us. You can also choose to remove your details from our database at any time and we will not share your information with third parties
Click on the ‘Want to add your activity to this directory' From there you will be redirected to an online form. Simply fill in the form and submit it.
If you are a gym facility or recreation centre that offers multiple classes or activities, we recommend that you add your listing only once and then outline the services you provide under the ‘Description’ field. Note: All new listings have to be approved by a moderator before they are uploaded to the website.
Once your activity details have been added you will receive an email from us every 12-18 months with a ‘magic link’ to your information. You will be asked to check the information, make any updates, and then resubmit your listing details. Note: You should still reply even if there are no changes as this tells us the listing is still current.
Your activity listing will remain in the database for 12 months from your last contact with us. If you have not received an email within 18 months please contact Sport Canterbury as sometimes emails can end up in span or junk folders. If you don’t respond to our email request to check your listing details or make contact, the listing will be removed.
If you run classes or activities in more than one location you will need to do a separate listing for each activity. This is because the database uses ‘locality’ to organise the information. If your activities are held in Christchurch, please click here to view a map of the different locality options. You will see that the boundary lines are not exact - please go with the option that fits best.
The online form you use to submit your details includes a ‘Website’ field – if you have a website address add these details here. If you don’t have a website but do have a Facebook page then add your Facebook page here instead. If you have both, list your website under the ‘Website’ field and list your Facebook details under the ‘Description’ field.
This category is designed to capture activities that don’t fit within a traditional sports club structure but incorporate aspects of sport. For example, a social badminton league or social weekly ‘walking netball’ game. The key criteria are: 1. social, 2. focus on fun rather than competition, 3. suitable for a range of fitness and ability levels. If unsure, please contact Sport Canterbury for advice. Note: There may be certain activities that fit in both the ‘Classes, Groups and Programmes’ database and the ‘Sports and Clubs’ database.
Yes, all gyms and fitness centres can list their details under the ‘Gym Facilities’ category. If you offer multiple classes or activities, we recommend that you outline the services you provide under the ‘Description’ field. We will then point visitors to your website or Facebook page for more information.
Active Canterbury supports local community activity providers to deliver high quality programmes and activities by offering a range of low-cost or free education and training opportunities. Activity providers can also sign up for a free bi-monthly newsletter. Visit the Active Canterbury website for more information.
