Canterbury Sports Foundation grant recipient, Millie Junge is a 15-year-old mountain biker aspiring to reach the top and follow in the footsteps of other New Zealanders on the world stage.
Millie's journey with mountain biking began at a very young age and has had a tremendous impact on Millie’s life, competing at a national level when she was just eleven years old.
Guided by the trailblazing success of Sammie Maxwell at the recent UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, Millie's aspirations to achieve her own goals have soared to new heights.
“It’s just awesome to see Sammie in her first year overseas in under-23’s, and it’s just really cool to see another kiwi over there doing well.” Junge stated.
At the moment, Millie is continuing to do what she loves with the goal to follow is Maxwell’s footsteps.
“I’m really hoping to get to the world stage, compete in the world championships, try my best and see how it goes.”
The financial support from the Canterbury Sports Foundation will help enable Millie to participate in more races and gain professional coaching, which will help here enable her growth in the sport, ideally turning her passion into a career.
