Physical Activity Leaders

Sport Canterbury provides leadership training opportunities to students in the primary and secondary education sectors.

Physical Activity Leaders (PALs)

Physical Activity Leaders (PALs) is a mentoring programme for primary school students, with a commitment to grow their school’s interest in sport and physical activity.

The PALs programme consists of:

  • One full day of training
  • Ongoing support of teachers responsible for PALs

In March 2015, over 160 Year 5 to 8 students representing 16 schools gathered at Lincoln Event Centre for a PALs leadership opportunity.

Speakers included Scott Robertson (Canterbury Rugby Football Union) and Pat Barwick (Performance Coach Advance). The enthusiastic students return to their schools with a range of new ideas, from organising games to engage students who may not traditionally participate in sport, to setting up scooter ramps and distributing gear for lunchtime activities.
