“We are pleased to bring this popular family event back to North Canterbury in 2017,” says Sport Canterbury Event Manager Jules Wilke. “Cantabrians of all ages can finish winter by setting a realistic goal, and head into springtime with a sense of achievement.”
The lakeside loop has proven popular since 2011 with families running together.
“It can be the first chance for many kids to take part in an organised fun run event.”
In 2016, a group of Sport Canterbury’s Green Prescription participants also used the 2.5km distance as an excuse to set – and achieve – a springtime goal.
“Our participants always comment on the atmosphere of this event – the warmth, crowd support and social aspect. People come to enjoy themselves – that’s the theme, year after year.”
Wilke points out that the Hellers Pegasus Fun Run 6km and 2.5km courses are suitable for buggies. As in 2016, the 11km and 6km courses will take walkers and runners alongside Lake Pegasus to the finish.
“The course is scenic, with stunning vistas to the foothills of North Canterbury, appealing to many participants who return year after year,” she adds.
Sport Canterbury introduced the event in response to sport and recreation opportunities being affected by the region’s earthquakes. Hellers has been the event’s outstanding supporter since 2014,
“Cantabrians welcomed the chance to warm up at the end of winter. And Hellers have been an awesome fit as sponsor, with their history and culture of community involvement. We are grateful for their continued partnership.”
Hellers Pegasus Fun Run entries opened on Thursday 27 July.
