Welcome
We have been busy at Sport Canterbury hosting our sports awards. It is very special to get together with 600 other people who share a common interest in sport, whether they are contributing at grass-roots level or performing as elite athletes. You can read about the major winners in our two lead articles in this edition. The awards are an opportunity to recognise the tremendous contribution that sporting people make in our region.
Another article covers the achievements of some young sports people at Linwood College. While some of them are just beginning their sporting careers, another story covers a man at the other end of the spectrum – Sir Bob Charles, who is marking 50 years since he first represented New Zealand at an Eisenhower Trophy.
Finally, congratulations to the All Whites. Their fantastic achievement means we are already excited about the sporting year ahead.
Regards
Martin Mongan
