Canterbury Sports Awards

The Canterbury Sports Awards are acclaimed by sports codes, the media and many Canterbury businesses, as the top sports celebration events in Canterbury.

Outstanding achievements in Canterbury sport are honoured during each event at the Christchurch Convention Centre, amidst an atmosphere of fun, entertainment and celebration of red and black. Both top athletes and grass roots sports men and women are acknowledged at this event.

Major awards on the night are Sportsperson of the Year, Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Disabled Sportsperson of the Year, Coach of the Year, Official of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Team and Junior Team of the Year. Over forty sporting codes are represented at the Canterbury Summer and Winter Sports Awards.

The Awards is also where the Sporting Legends of Canterbury are inducted each year. Under a veil of secrecy, two Canterbury sporting icons are inducted into this elite group of true legends of Canterbury Sport. Legends like Fergie McCormick, Joan Harnett, Ivan Mauger, Val Young, Alex 'Grizz' Wylie and Judy Blair are amongst some of the first who have had the title of 'Sporting Legend of Canterbury' bestowed upon them.

The evening involves pre-dinner drinks followed by a four course meal including drinks and entertainment.
