Community
Our Young Persons team works in targeted communities throughout our region. This ensures our work is effective and of excellent quality. In Canterbury our communities are:
- New Brighton
- Linwood
- Mairehau/Shirley
- Hornby
- Rangiora
- Rolleston/Lincoln
Within these communities we will be working in-depth with 30 primary/Intermediate schools and 7 secondary schools. This work is detailed in the primary and secondary sections of this site. In community settings we will provide:
- Coach/parent education in Fundamental Movement Skills.
- More effective opportunities for young people to participate in sports clubs by assisting clubs to make themselves more relevant and appealing to young people of all ages.
- Linking community clubs and organisations to primary and secondary schools.
- Assisting the development of Kiwisport Funded projects.
- Working with Regional Sports Organisations through coach education and assisting them to effectively engage young people in their particular sport.
- Work with local City and District Councils to increase the opportunities for young people to participate in sport and recreation.
