KiwiSport

KiwiSport promotes the modification of adult sport adapted to suit young people. Sports who are able to offer modified versions are more likely to attract and retain young players, because the emphasis is on fun, skill development, participation and fairplay.
The key elements of a modified sport are; resembles the adult version of the sport, has been adapted to suit the age, size, ability and skill of players, is safe-but is still challenging and competitive, helps players learn skills that prepare them for the adult sport, and alters aspects of the adult sport such as the rules, size of playing area and equipment, and duration of play.
The KiwiSport Philosophy:
- Focus on the needs of young people
- Fun
- Friendship
- Foundation for life-time involvement
- First positive experiences
- Fair and positive competition
- Fitting sport to suit kids
- FairPlay
- For everyone
- Fundamental Movement skills
- Full range of sporting experience
KiwiSport Field Day Planning
Planning support for Field Days
Field Days are physical activity days delivering a variety of KiwiSport , modified sport and physical activities to the school community.
If you are running a KiwiSport or Community sports and physical activity event, here are some questions you should ask yourself:
Need: Where does it fit in the programme?
Objectives: What do you want to achieve?
Type of Event: What type of programme is best for this?
Target Group: Whole/part of the school community; cluster groups?
Feasibility: Is the event worth holding? Consider likely support, date, venue, cost, equipment and helpers.
Management: Do you need one organiser, one school, or a committee?
Jobs: Break them down. What needs to be done?
Date and booking: Will you need an alternative if postponed?
Timeline: When will things be done/need to be done?
Programme: What'?s on the programme?
People Power: How many helpers do you need? Who? Contact Phone numbers?
Budget: What costs are involved? Who pays?
Venue: Size, shelter, sealed areas, cost, booking.
Publicity: What is needed? Media release?

Fair Play
FairPlay is an inherent part of all sports. It encompasses attitudes and behaviours both on and off the field.
The responsibility for FairPlay lies with all those involved: players, coaches, parents, teachers, supporters and officials.
FairPlay is about:
- promoting and reinforcing the wider values of sport
- implementing strategies to change behaviour and positively influence attitudes
- developing and distributing appropriate resources supporting the key message
- encouraging greater ownership of FairPlay activity by national governing bodies of sport, schools and other providers of sport
The key message of FairPlay is:
"Give it heaps, but don't get ugly."
