Sport Consultancy

Our Consultancy role is about working one on one with an organisation to help address the needs of the organisation. This work is varied in nature, and is focused on improving the capability and sustainability of the infrastructure of sport.

Strategic Planning

Planning is about taking the time to look at the future, and decide what the key things are your organisation would like to achieve, and how you will achieve them.

Strategic planning is another name for a long-term plan. It enables an organisation to bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be in the future. A strategic plan is a tool that guides organisations towards pre-determined goals and objectives.

Many sports clubs and regional bodies operate on a day by day basis, reacting to what is going on around them. They need to be proactive though and start looking ahead, and planning so that they have a future.

We have developed a process that organisations can work through to develop a plan that will enable them to develop and grow. We can also help clubs and sports organisations by facilitating the process for them and helping write their final plan.

Financial Planning

Finances and fundraising are often the most complex part of any organisation, yet crucial to its success and sustainability. Financial planning can be as simple as developing a budget to looking at how to fundraise for a major project. It is about identifying avenues and shortfalls of funding for the day to day operations of an organisation or for the major projects you may be taking on. It helps you to identify what you need to do as an organisation to ensure you are financial secure.

We can provide guidance and template on how to do your own financial planning, plus direct you towards sources of potential funding for your organisation (see the Funding Assistance section on our website for more information).

Human Resource Management

People are the most important resource to any sporting organisation whether they are paid or volunteers, and it is important that they are well looked after.

As more and more people become employed in paid roles within the sports sector, clubs and regional organisations are now taking on the responsibility of being employers. This can be a little daunting for executives and boards who haven’t had this role before. With the different requirements and regulations surrounding this, and the desire to be a good employer, comes the need to ensure they have the correct systems in place to achieve this.

This can be a s simple as ensuring an accurate job description and contract is in place to developing an appropriate appraisal system and key performance indicators.

We can provide advice and work with organisations to help develop the required systems and ensure you are meeting your requirements as an employer.

Joint Ventures

The traditional delivery structure for sport in New Zealand is under pressure due to continual changes in society. Support needs to be given to strengthen the systems that are used to manage sport in our communities. CWCST believes that for clubs to survive into the future, they need to start working together to ensure the best use of resources within their communities. By doing this they also improve the infrastructure of the sport, and increase the capability of clubs to provide quality sporting experiences.

There are many different types of joint ventures that clubs can look at and partners do not need to be limited to sporting organisations. The key is to identify what possibilities exist and to start looking at ways they can develop partnerships with other groups to ensure their continued development.

CWCST can provide an independent point of view to issues surrounding joint ventures and amalgamations, and are able to facilitate this process for groups, and help identify other potential partners to join the process.
