After School Programmes
After School Programmes After School Programmes The Sport Canterbury After School Programme will target Year 1 - 8 children and be built on the successful KiwiSport Holiday Programme. The service will operate at the conclusion of the school day, from 3:00pm until 5:30pm. Weekly and Term plans will be formulated to include the following activities: • Roll call and sharing time • Healthy afternoon tea (provided by Sport Canterbury) • Homework Time • Structured physical activity session (maximum of 30 mins), using KiwiSport as the basis of activity • Free play activities, including passive activities (arts, crafts etc), chill out time. A strength that Sport Canterbury brings to this area is the focus on creating positive lifestyles and habits around physical activity, not just about providing after school care. This is the unique point of difference for the After School Programme delivered by Sport Canterbury as key providers and deliverers of physical activity in the Canterbury regions. Sport Canterbury works closely with the Out of School Care and Recreation (OSCAR) Network and other agencies, interfacing with programmes catering for children before and after school, as well as holiday programmes. Our intention is to provide a safe supervised environment for children out of school hours, with a focus on creating life-time habits around regular physical activity. The emphasis will be on fun and enjoyment and creating a positive out of school experience. Sport Canterbury has six CYFs approved venues operating at the following venues: Avondale School, Amberley (based at the Amberley Rugby Clubrooms) Opawa School,Redcliffs School, Tuahiwi School and Seaview(based in the Roy Stokes Hall.
